Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his delight after his team’s emphatic 106-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2024. The win, powered by a mammoth 272-run total, propelled KKR back to the top of the points table.

Iyer Surprised by Batting Onslaught

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Iyer revealed his initial expectations for the team’s batting performance. “No no, the way we started we thought 210-220, but 270 was icing on the cake,” he said, admitting that the team’s final score surpassed his initial hopes.

This sentiment highlights the dominance displayed by the KKR batsmen, who went on to post the second-highest total in IPL history.

Narine’s and Raghuvanshi’s Heroics Earn Skipper’s Praise

Iyer lauded Sunil Narine for his career-best knock of 85 runs off just 39 deliveries.  “As I said in the toss interview, Sunny is there to take on the bowlers, and if he can’t the rest of us should. That’s the plan,” the skipper explained.  This statement underscores the crucial role Narine played in setting the platform for the team’s massive total.

Iyer also showered praise on debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who contributed a blistering 54 off 27 balls.  “He was fearless from ball one. His work ethic is phenomenal. He analyses situations well. He is a smart batter, shots were pleasing to the eye,” Iyer said, highlighting Raghuvanshi’s talent and maturity.  This recognition bodes well for the young player’s future with the franchise.

Bowling Attack Earns Iyer’s Appreciation

While the batting stole the spotlight, Iyer acknowledged the bowling attack’s contribution to the win. “Good to see bowlers stepping up and taking responsibility. They supported each other in their successes. We’ve been observing that last few games,” he stated.  This praise emphasizes the importance of a balanced performance and a team effort in securing victories.

Iyer concluded by urging his team to stay grounded despite their current winning streak. “(Three wins in three) You always have to be down to earth, especially in the IPL,” he remarked.  This statement reflects the captain’s focus on maintaining a level head and taking each match as it comes.

KKR’s dominant performance against DC has instilled confidence within the team and sent a strong message to the competition. With Iyer at the helm and a team firing on all cylinders, KKR appears well-positioned to continue their title challenge in the ongoing IPL season.
