Virat Kohli on the verge of rewriting IPL history if he does this against Lucknow Supergiants

Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli is in line to create a record that has neither been achieved before nor will it be repeated anytime soon. The former India and Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain needs 132 runs, which means a possible century in tonight’s match against Lucknow Super Giants in front of home support could be on the cards. The 35-year-old is currently the joint top-scorer of IPL 2024 with the Orange cap currently over the head of Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag.

Virat Kohli, who will be playing only his 4th match since the 3-month paternity leave from January to March, enters the Chinnaswamy tonight with the form on his side. In his first match against CSK during the season opener, Kohli was able to score just 21 runs but in the following two games against Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, he responded pretty well.

Against Punjab when RCB clinched their maiden victory, Kohli had contributed 77 and during the recent loss against KKR, the batter had remained not out at 83.

Even though RCB had lost against KKR Virat Kohli was able to demonstrate the things that could come from his bat in the later stages of the tournament. He currently stands at 181 runs at an average of 90.50, whereas Riyan Parag toppled him in that list due to a better average of 181.

Virat Kohli to become the first batsman to score 8000 runs for a single team in T20 cricket

If he gets those 132 runs against Lucknow Super Giants later tonight then Virat Kohli will become the first batsman ever to have scored 8000 runs for a single team.

Now that is something that has never been done in the history of T20 cricket but as we all know, records have a habit of chasing Kohli wherever he goes and this is just the latest one he could be becoming a part of.

Virat Kohli is, without a doubt, going to achieve this feat at some point in the league, if not tonight. Amassing 132 runs in 20 overs is a huge challenge but given the type of player he has always been, Kohli will be up for the task. His ideology has always asked him to embark on newer and fresher challenges and that is a key reason why he has been able to achieve so much success at the international level.

In the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli stands as the all-time top scorer with 7444 runs from 240 career matches all for RCB.

The batter has further scored 424 runs in 15 matches for the South-Indian outfit while playing in the (now defunct) Champions League T20. That takes his tally to 7868 runs 255 matches and a 132 more will make him the only man to score 8000 runs in the shortest format for a single team.

RCB aiming to increase their win lead over LSG

Meanwhile, the head-to-head stats between LSG and RCB suggest that the 2009, 2011, and 2016 runners-up have an upper hand over their North-Indian counterparts.

In 4 matches since the 2022 season, RCB have won thrice whereas Lucknow have claimed victory in only one match. The most recent one between them was won by Faf du Plessis’ side by 18 Runs at the Ekana stadium.
